Learn more about Maya Hosabettu and how she is making a real impact on Florida’s freshwater turtles.
This month’s Feel Good Friday features Maya Hosabettu, Dell ISG Strategic Business Manager based in Florida, who has been with TD SYNNEX for four years. Outside of work, Maya dedicates her time to a cause that brings her passion and profession together: the Santa Fe River Turtle Project.
The Santa Fe River Turtle Project focuses on conserving, researching, and protecting Florida’s freshwater turtle species in north central Florida. Supported by more than 200 people, including professors, students, researchers, and volunteers, the group works together to collect data that helps protect native turtle populations. Maya’s background is in wildlife ecology and conservation, and while her career path led her into the corporate world, she found herself missing that direct connection to wildlife. Volunteering with the Santa Fe River Turtle Project gave her the perfect bridge between her professional skills and her lifelong passion.

In the field, Maya has helped with turtle surveys at Poe Springs and Ichetucknee Springs, even joining a session alongside wildlife conservationist Jeff Corwin. During these surveys, the team successfully captured, tagged, and released over 100 turtles, gathering vital data about their populations and health. This information directly informs strategies for protecting Florida’s freshwater turtles for years to come. For Maya, the work is deeply personal. “I’m a native Floridian, and so growing up, I had a passion for wildlife, catching critters, and understanding their ecology and how they work,” she says. “Whether it’s bugs, reptiles, or apex predators, it’s important to conserve and protect any and all of those species.”

The experience also enriches Maya’s life beyond conservation. Volunteering allows her to apply skills she’s honed at TD SYNNEX while also feeding her drive to protect wildlife. “I get to use my passion and profession hand-in-hand,” she says. “And the best part is knowing I’m making a difference for species that need our protection.”
Maya’s story is a reminder that giving your time to something you love can be a benefit to the cause, while also restoring your own sense of purpose.
