TD SYNNEX is committed to drive positive change within the technology ecosystem, and the release of our latest Corporate Citizenship Report is a testament to this pledge. With a unique position at the center of the IT ecosystem, TD SYNNEX not only connects the world’s top technology vendors but also champions sustainability and innovation across the industry.

While the inaugural report set the stage for our sustainability journey, this year’s report highlights our progress in addressing key environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments, showcasing how we are actively shaping a more sustainable future while creating long-term value for our partners and the broader community. As our business expands, our ESG framework ensures that we remain focused on areas where we can have the greatest impact and engagement, both within our industry and beyond.

An Ongoing Commitment To Sustainability through Science-Based Targets

This year’s report highlights a significant milestone – the approval of our science-based emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), positioning TD SYNNEX as one of the first technology solutions aggregators to achieve this recognition.

Our commitment includes ambitious goals such as:

  • Reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% by 2030
  • Achieving net-zero GHG emissions across our value chain by 2045
  • Have 90% of our suppliers by spend and 58% of our customers by revenue set science-based targets by 2028

We also are actively embedding circular economy principles into our product lifecycle management, partnering with stakeholders to minimize waste through repair, refurbishment and recycling. These goals reflect our ongoing commitment to a sustainable future and our drive to lead by example.

Walking The Walk, But With Fewer Carbon Footprints

We are not just committed to making a difference, we are driving it on a global scale. While there’s always more to be done, there are significant milestones that should be celebrated.

In 2023, we achieved an approximate 30% reduction in combined Scope 1 and 2 emissions over the previous year. This success was largely driven by transitioning several of our facilities to renewable energy sources and implementing energy efficiency measures.

But our efforts don’t stop there. We are actively working with our customers, vendors, and other partners to address Scope 3 emissions. These emissions, generated throughout our value chain and co-worker activities, present a complex challenge, but we are meeting it head-on through a comprehensive and integrated program that is directly tied to our goals and ambitions.

Leading The Shift To Renewable Energy

Our vision for a sustainable future is driven by a firm commitment to renewable energy, the cornerstone of our strategy to achieve net zero emissions by 2045. The transition from fossil fuels to cleaner energy sources is not just a goal, it’s already a tangible reality. Today, approximately 31% of the electricity we use comes from renewable sources.

We are particularly proud to share several major milestones:

  • Our wholly owned subsidiary, Hyve Solutions, has successfully transitioned to 100% renewable electricity at its three largest manufacturing sites
  • Significant strides have been made at our facilities in Spain, Italy and the Czech Republic now fully powered by certified renewable-sourced electricity
  • Invested in self-generating solar energy and secured bundled Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and Guarantees of Origin (GOs) to cover electricity consumed from the grid

These efforts are more than just a step toward reducing our carbon footprint, they represent a leadership stance in promoting renewable energy initiatives and sustainable business practices across our entire global operations. By championing this shift, TD SYNNEX is not only shaping a more sustainable future for our company but also sets a precedent for responsible corporate citizenship across the IT channel.

Our Role In The Circular Economy

TD SYNNEX embraces and promotes the principles of the circular economy, a model that emphasizes keeping products in use for as long as possible through strategies like reuse, refurbishment, remanufacturing and recycling.

Electronic waste (e-waste) is rapidly becoming one of the most pressing environmental issues, with the ITU reporting a staggering 62 million metric tons of e-waste generated globally in 2022, TD SYNNEX is taking action to shift the industry toward more sustainable practices.

In 2023, we expanded our lifecycle management services and promoted a circular economy mindset:

  • The TD SYNNEX Renew device trade-in program saw a 22% increase in the volume of devices since 2021
  • Renew also saw a 16% increase in trade-in value for our partners since 2021
  • 5 metric tons of ferrous material were preserved through TD SYNNEX Renew, with 70 pounds of rare material diverted from e-waste disposal.
  • Shyft Global Services, a TD SYNNEX subsidiary, launched a new initiative to maximize the lifespan of IT and medical devices
  • 523 metric tons of repaired products were returned to service through Shyft
  • $81 million worth of manufacturer-renewed products were redistributed by PCW, a subsidiary of TD SYNNEX

Through these efforts, TD SYNNEX is reducing environmental impact while paving the way for market growth in the circular economy.

Building on Successes Toward a Greener Tomorrow

As we look to the future, TD SYNNEX remains steadfast in our ESG commitments. We know that technology will be pivotal in our decarbonization efforts, and with artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-powered technologies, we are preparing to tackle the challenges of increased energy demand and consumption.

Our journey toward a more sustainable future is marked by significant achievements, but we are far from finished. By integrating high-growth technologies and upholding the highest standards of corporate responsibility, we are committed to driving meaningful progress in the years ahead.

Together with our partners and stakeholders, we will continue to build on our successes and pave the way for a greener, more innovative tomorrow.
