Meet Alexandra Lim, Vendor Marketing Manager for Lenovo based in Toronto, Canada. Alexandra has spent the last 2 years with TD SYNNEX and has dedicated the last 10 years of her life to volunteering in her community. Today, Alexandra is the August Feel Good Friday spotlight, and we’re sharing her volunteer journey with Girl Guides Canada, an organization dedicated to supporting girls and creating opportunities for them to learn and grow.

For Alexandra, volunteering with Girl Guides Canada is more than just a passion; it’s become an integral part of her identity. Alexandra’s journey with Girls Guides started at a young age when she was a girl guide herself. As a shy, quiet girl growing up, Alexandra was able to find her voice and come out of her shell with the help of Girl Guides Canada. Now, as an adult, she finds joy in giving back to the organization that helped shape who she is today.

As a volunteer for Girl Guides, Alexandra spends her time with girls aged between 8 to 12 years old, organizing special adventures for the girls such as camping trips. She’s become quite the wilderness expert, and the ‘go-to’ for all things related to starting a fire, setting up tents, and identifying plants. She’s also their biggest cheerleader during the annual cookie sale event. She often sells Girl Guide cookies at the office, where her co-workers are eagerly awaiting the next cookie sale. In return, Alexandra gets the opportunity to learn new skills or gain new experiences herself, such as horseback riding and crocheting.

Being a leader to these girls is meaningful to Alexandra for so many reasons. She remembers her own time as a young girl and can relate to many of the experiences and complexities that come with growing up. Alexandra appreciates the opportunity to share her wisdom and create a safe and inclusive space for the girls as they navigate their own journeys.

Additionally, Alexandra gets to share her own personal passions and hobbies with the girls. One of Alexandra’s most memorable moments with Girl Guides was when she taught a computer class where the girls could earn badges for their computer knowledge. A self-proclaimed “nerd,” Alexandra loves building computers and was excited to share her hobby with the girls. She brought in an old PC and had the girls take it apart, explaining how each part worked and drawing comparisons to how the human body works. Seeing the girls’ curiosity and excitement as they learned something new was touching for Alexandra. It was a moment where her personal interests and her volunteer work intersected in the most rewarding way.

For Alexandra, volunteering with Girl Guides Canada is not just about giving back; it’s about being part of something bigger than herself. It’s about the joy of seeing a shy girl become confident, the satisfaction of sharing her passions with others, and the fulfillment of knowing she’s making a difference in the lives of young girls.
