Don’t Let it be Too Late to Strengthen and Maintain Your Security Posture

The global economic impact of cybercrime has reached epidemic proportions, and nowhere is the lack of protected people and data felt most importantly than in cybersecurity.

It is shocking to see that, according to Proofpoint’s Voice of the CISO report, half of global CISOs still feel their organisation is unprepared to handle a cyber-attack. Meanwhile, a further 56 percent consider human error to be their biggest cyber vulnerability.

In this day and age, email, social media, and mobile devices are the tools of your trade. For cyber criminals, they are the tools of attack. The challenge is protecting the most important assets of a business, its people. That is why solution providers are working with system aggregators to assist partners in lowering the barriers to entry so they can help organisations improve and sustain a good cybersecurity posture.

Email is one of the major inroads into an organisation and so giving people the greatest amount of security support is essential. It is important for partners to find a cloud-based solution which can help manage data, prevent leakage, and maintain easy access for discovery to achieve regulatory and legal compliance. Filtering mail for spam and phishing detection before it even reaches the user’s network can free up the time of IT teams and even disk space on servers.

It is now fundamental for organisations to have good email security. However, it is worth remembering that the tools used to achieve this are just tools. As noted in the Voice of the CISO research above, human error is recognised as a critical weakness. If the employees in the organisation are not security aware, those tools are not going to be as effective. The key to achieving this is training, and a robust risk assessment that will analyse the business vulnerabilities and help organisations to implement the right products in order to protect their business. Luckily, partners can use training programmes for threat simulations and awareness training to deliver the right education to the right people for the right response.

It is true that the cybersecurity landscape is constantly changing. New threats, new threat actors, and new weaknesses are identified on an almost daily basis. Luckily, new solutions are equally prolific. Not so fortunately, this means that identifying the best solutions, most reliable vendors and appropriate skills becomes a demanding task in itself. Partners are faced with having to assess multiple point products on the market and consider the areas where they overlap. This is where partners should look to those in the channel who have taken up the role of systems aggregation, as they can pick up the slack here. Constantly researching the market to identify and advise on the most effective solutions, systems aggregators can create ready-to-deploy cybersecurity solutions and services packages that are properly configured and can be tailored to a company’s needs. As such, partners can build out their business and solve their customers’ challenges with a range of ready-to-deploy solutions, without having to take on all the cost of investing into those solutions themselves. Leveraging the channel is the wise option for sharing the load of costly investments in skills, tools, marketing and products to solve the modern cybersecurity problem.

Cybersecurity is now a fundamental strategic priority for organisations. It should also be a team endeavour amongst everyone in the channel to improve their security posture, regardless of experience. Bringing the full weight of the channel to bear on this issue will require vendors and systems aggregators making training and sales enablement readily available and accessible, whilst also investing time and resources into creating solutions for resellers and managed service providers so that it is easier for them to profitably serve their customers. If everyone plays their part, then we can ensure that organisations have access to the solutions, expertise and training necessary to protect their most valuable and vulnerable asset; their people.
