In today’s fast-changing technology landscape, one thing is clear: specialization has become essential. For IT distributors, it is no longer enough to simply provide access to products. Success is no longer measured by who can move products the fastest. Partners and their customers are looking for deeper knowledge, expertise, experience, specialized guidance and customized solutions that address complex business challenges. Partner ecosystem is shifting from transactional sales to outcome-focused.
This is especially true in areas where the pace of change and stakes are the highest, such as cybersecurity.
Why Specialization Is More Important than Ever
The IT market has become increasingly complex. New technologies emerge daily, reshaping how organizations operate; customer expectations rise and demand for specialized resources continues to outpace supply. This complexity makes it nearly impossible for partners to be experts in every field.
Specialization enables distributors to move from transactional to transformational. It means delivering deeper expertise, developing service capabilities and providing value that strengthens partners’ competitiveness in the market. Distributors that invest in and focus on specialization become trusted advisors, helping partners navigate complexity and capture new opportunities.
The fourth annual TD SYNNEX Direction of Technology (DoT) report highlights specialization as one of the most important trends transforming the IT channel. Industry expertise and advisory guidance are the top factors that end customers look for in a partner, followed closely by exceptional customer service.
In line with these findings, the report reveals that specialization not only meets market expectations but is also becoming a key strategy for growth and differentiation for IT partners:
- 88.4% of partners offer or plan to offer customized IT solutions and integration services within the next 12 months
- 88.2% offer or plan to offer consulting and professional services
- 82.5% are transitioning to offer managed services, including monitoring and disaster recovery
The data shows that the most successful providers have evolved their approach by prioritizing advanced services, artificial intelligence and specialized capabilities. This evolution enables them to lead in high-growth areas such as AI, data analytics, cloud and cybersecurity.
The partner ecosystem will be more specialized, service‑oriented, and embedded in customers’ digital transformation efforts. The partners that thrive will be those that pivot toward advisory, integration, managed services, and AI‑enabled offerings
Cybersecurity: The Critical Area of Specialization
As the IT ecosystem becomes more complex, partners are turning to artificial intelligence and cybersecurity as strategic imperatives. This year’s DoT report reveals that partners in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) are doubling down on cybersecurity and AI:
- 75% of respondents in LAC prioritize edge security, compared with just 67% globally
- 86% are focused on AI-driven automation, versus 79% globally
- And an impressive 93% emphasize cybersecurity and network security, above the global average of 88%
This makes it clear that these two areas are driving transformation across the entire channel, and that partners are investing in smarter, more scalable solutions to meet evolving customer demands.
Nowhere is the need for specialized expertise more evident than in cybersecurity. Security remains one of the top areas of expertise partners look for in IT distributors. Threats are constantly evolving regulations are becoming more stringent and businesses must do more to protect their data and systems. For partners, keeping up in such a rapidly-changing landscape can be overwhelming.
That’s why TD SYNNEX created the Cybersecurity Practice: to equip partners with the tools, knowledge and support they need to succeed in this demanding space.
How TD SYNNEX’s Cybersecurity Practice Supports Partners
Through Cybersecurity Practice, TD SYNNEX goes far beyond providing a portfolio of products and solutions. TD SYNNEX delivers an ecosystem designed for partner success:

Programs like Cybersecurity Practice are key to helping partners turn challenges into opportunities, lead with confidence and differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive market.
The depth, value, and strategic importance of partner engagement will continue to rise, cementing partners as essential drivers of customers’ business outcomes and IT investment decisions. TD SYNNEX will be present in this development journey with the partners.
